Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker to deliver Benedictine College commencement address
Former Indianapolis Colt Tony Dungy to receive honorary degree at May 13 ceremony
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Harrison Butker, placekicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, will deliver the commencement address at Benedictine College's 120th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13.
Butker, a two-time Pro Bowler, helped lead the Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LIV. He was named the Chiefs' special teams captain in 2021 and was recognized for his leadership both on and off the field.
Benedictine College is also honoring former Indianapolis Colt Tony Dungy at the ceremony. Dungy, who led the Colts to victory in Super Bowl XLI, will receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.
Dungy, who is the first coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl as a player and a head coach, has been a strong advocate for social justice and racial reconciliation. He is the founder of the Dungy Family Foundation, which supports efforts to improve the lives of children and families in underserved communities.
Butker and Dungy will speak to Benedictine College's 2023 graduating class, which includes more than 300 students from 32 states and 10 countries.
"We are honored to have Harrison Butker and Tony Dungy join us for our commencement ceremony," said Benedictine College President Stephen D. Minnis. "They are both outstanding examples of leadership, both on and off the field. Their presence will be an inspiration to our graduates as they prepare to make their own mark on the world."
