French Voters Keep Far Right At Bay In Parliamentary Elections

Former French President Francois Hollande Elected to Parliament Amidst National Rally Loss

French Voters Keep Far-Right at Bay in Parliamentary Elections

National Rally's Projected Results Disappoint After President Macron's Surprise Snap Election

On Sunday night, French voters once again kept the far-right at bay, denying the National Rally (RN) a significant victory in parliamentary elections. Just three weeks after President Emmanuel Macron surprised the nation with a snap election call, voters returned to the polls on June 30 to determine the composition of France's National Assembly.

Despite attempts by RN leaders to project optimism, projected results from parliamentary elections showed a disappointing outcome for the party. RN secured only 32% of the vote, with 37% including their right-wing allies. For over 10 million voters, this result broke a taboo, as RN made electoral gains in Meaux, east of Paris.
